How we calculate the times
Every time on this site is calculated, never typed by hand. This is how:
The place
Times are calculated for the latitude and longitude of the city you chose, or of your phone's location if you allowed it, in that place's time zone.
Sunset
Sunset is calculated astronomically with the open source @hebcal/core library. Every time the site is updated, a full year of times in many cities is compared with hebcal.com.
Candle lighting
18 minutes before sunset, the custom in most communities. In Jerusalem and its immediate area, within 12 km of the city, 40 minutes before sunset, as is the Jerusalem custom. In the live view you can choose 18, 20 or 40 minutes.
End of Shabbat
When the sun is 8.5 degrees below the horizon, when three small stars appear. For those who follow Rabbeinu Tam, a time 72 minutes after sunset is shown too.
Festivals
One festival day in Israel and two outside Israel, according to where you are. On the second night candles are lit from an existing flame, after nightfall.
The parasha
After some festivals Israel and the diaspora read different portions. The site shows the portion read where you are. An automatic check confirms for a whole year that every lighting shows the portion of the Shabbat it brings in.

Times are calculated and may be off by a few minutes. Follow your local custom and consult a rabbi.
